How it is calculated
Cost per round is the total price of a batch divided by the rounds it contains — shipping included, because you pay that too.
(Total price + shipping) ÷ number of rounds = cost per round
A real example: 550 rounds of 9mm for $150 comes to $0.273 per round. 1,000 rounds for $239 comes to $0.239 per round. The second offer costs more up front — and is still the better buy. Over 1,000 rounds there is roughly $34 between them.
Why shipping belongs in the number
Ammo is heavy. On small orders shipping moves the cost per round substantially, which turns a cheaper-looking box price into the more expensive purchase. That is why shipping belongs inside the calculation, not next to it.
What a single cost per round does not tell you
The number answers exactly one question: which offer is cheaper right now. It says nothing about how your ammo prices move over time, where your average across all batches sits, or when your stock runs out. That takes a purchase history — and one only exists if you record every batch separately.

Should shipping be part of cost per round?
Yes. Shipping is part of what you actually pay for the ammo. Leave it out and you are comparing offers that do not exist.
How many decimal places do I need?
Three. Between $0.239 and $0.27 it is the third decimal that decides — over 1,000 rounds that is already a double-digit amount.
How do I compare offers with different quantities?
Through cost per round. It makes 550 and 1,000 rounds directly comparable, which the total price cannot do.
